Bowing Intensive Workshop
Spiccato, sautillé, up-bow staccato... these bow strokes can be a real challenge for many high school and conservatory students alike. In this workshop, we'll do a deep dive into spiccato, sautillé, and up-bow staccato through understanding the basic principles of the CBY Approach. Students are encouraged to prepare repertoire that relies heavily on these articulations, such as the second movement of the Elgar Concerto, Tchaikovsky Pezzo Capricioso, Van Goen Scherzo Your Body Is Your Instrument Workshop So many budding professional cellists struggle with pushing their technical boundaries as players while remaining relaxed and at ease in their physical coordination. In this workshop, you and your students will learn how bio-mechanics and coordination can help you play with more ease and less tension. I'll introduce you to fundamental concepts and share some of my favorite ways to practice difficult passages-- while being aware of the rest of your body, not just hands and arms. This workshop can be tailored to a masterclass format where I work with students individually, or for an ensemble. Orchestral Excerpt Workshop Explore the basics such as bowings, fingerings, style, as well as differences in performance informed by many years of playing them with outstanding conductors. These workshops are to be designed to meet the needs of the group. Ensembles, such as orchestras, students in your class or studio, beginning to advanced, can benefit from these. Also, the YOU applies to all players, not just string players. A discussion with the teacher or leader will determine the goals for your group. |
